Alpine Meadows Road Bridge Replacement Project Receives Multiple Awards
Spanning the Truckee River in the scenic Tahoe National Forest, the Alpine Meadows Road Bridge is the sole entrance into the Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows Ski Resort, as well as a number of private residences in the Alpine Meadows Valley. The DHA team replaced the bridge, improved pedestrian and bicyclist safety, upgraded the storm water quality facilities, and enhanced the overall entrance appearance at Alpine Meadows. DHA designed a new 120-foot long, single-span, pre-cast, pre-stressed concrete wide flange girder structure, as well as a temporary on-site detour to remove and replace the existing bridge in a single construction season. The result: A beautiful bridge that has received awards to-date from ACEC California, APWA Sacramento, and ASCE Sacramento.
Newly Completed City College Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge Opens
The ribbon cutting ceremony for the Sacramento City College Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge project featured the DHA design team, City of Sacramento and Los Rios Community College District staff, Sacramento City Council Members, Curtis Park residents, local bicycle advocacy groups, and even Girl Scout troops. Together, this unique community celebrated the unveiling of this iconic structure: an overcrossing that spans the Sacramento Regional Transit District (RT) light rail tracks and the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) tracks adjacent to Sacramento City College, connecting the City College on the west side of the tracks and the Curtis Park Village Development on the east side of the tracks via the overcrossing. The project included construction of a tied-arch bridge across UPRR tracks, as well as a pre-cast cored slab bridge structure across the Sacramento City College Light Rail Station, approach ramps on both sides of the UPRR and RT tracks, stairs, lighting, underground utilities, landscaping and irrigation facilities. Other project features included differing types of overhead structures, including cast-in-place box girders, pre-cast, pre-stressed voided girders, and reinforced concrete box girder approach ramps and slabs. The DHA team recently received a 2016 APWA Sacramento Chapter Project of the Year Award for this project.
